Coming soon! New policy and procedure release

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (the NMC) will be releasing two new policies in the coming months; 'Supervison Compliance' and 'Drug and Alcohol Screening'.

Both policies and procedures have undergone appropriate consultation and review, and the NMC will be writing to our stakeholders shortly to provide further advice.

Supervision is used to monitor practitioners and students who need to address a health, conduct or performance issue that have been assessed as affecting safe and/or competent practice.

We know that working under supervision can be challenging, and positive supervision reports are the best way for us to know that performance is to the expected Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s practice and competency standards. The new policy and procedures will assist with supervision compliance and reporting.

The drug and alcohol screening policies have been extensively reviewed to ensure the way we screen is up to date, evidence-based and in line with best practice. It is also a response to the release of a national drug and alcohol screening protocol by AHPRA.
